MSME Udyam Registration Documents & Checklist 2026
The Udyam Registration (formerly MSME/Udyog Aadhar) gives your business official MSME status, unlocking priority sector lending, collateral-free loans, government tender benefits, and protection under the MSMED Act. Since July 2020, Udyam Registration is done entirely online at udyamregistration.gov.in using Aadhaar and self-declaration — no physical documents or uploads required. However, this checklist helps you have everything ready.
Eligibility — MSME Classification (As per ${year} criteria)
- ✅Micro: Investment in plant/machinery ≤ ₹1 crore AND turnover ≤ ₹5 crore
- ✅Small: Investment ≤ ₹10 crore AND turnover ≤ ₹50 crore

- ✅Applicable to manufacturing AND service enterprises (same criteria)

- ✅Aadhaar of the applicant (proprietor / partner / director / authorised signatory)
- ✅PAN of the enterprise (individual PAN for proprietorship; company/LLP PAN for others)
- ✅GSTIN — mandatory if the enterprise is GST-registered
- ✅Bank account number and IFSC code
- ✅Main activity — manufacturing or service (and sub-category)
- ✅Investment in plant & machinery / equipment (self-declared)
- ✅Current financial year turnover (self-declared)
- ✅Number of employees
- ✅NIC code — National Industrial Classification code for your business activity

💡 Link Aadhaar to mobile before applying
Udyam registration is Aadhaar-OTP based. Ensure your Aadhaar is linked to an active mobile number before starting. You can link Aadhaar to mobile at the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
💡 Udyam replaces Udyog Aadhar and EM-II
If you have an older Udyog Aadhar or EM-II registration, it expired in December 2021. You must re-register on the Udyam portal to maintain MSME status and benefits.
💡 Registration is free — beware of fraud
Udyam registration at udyamregistration.gov.in is completely free. Only use the official government portal. Many fake websites charge fees for this free service.

Is Udyam registration mandatory?
Udyam registration is not legally mandatory. However, without it, you cannot access MSME-specific government schemes, priority sector loans, tender benefits, or MSMED Act payment protections. It is strongly recommended for all eligible businesses.
Can a company (Pvt Ltd) get Udyam registration?
Yes. Private Limited Companies, OPCs, LLPs, partnerships, and sole proprietorships are all eligible. For companies, the director's Aadhaar is used for the registration.
